Thomasville and Albany

Begin your weekend strolling down the lanes of Georgia's plantation past in historic Thomasville. Start your Saturday morning off exploring the historic downtown area, with its historic homes and businesses on the Historic Thomasville Walking-Driving Tour. While you're in town, stop by the Thomasville Cultural Center to learn more about the growing regional arts movement or visit the Sweet Grass Dairy Marketplace for a selection of fine cheeses. Then head a few miles down GA-35 to beautiful Pebble Hill Plantation – an antebellum plantation dating to 1825. Tour the grounds and the awe-inspiring Main House, and then head back into town to enjoy a relaxing stay at the 1884 Paxton House Inn. On Sunday, travel to Albany for the day.  Eat lunch at Carter’s Grill & Restaurant, famous for the soul food and barbeque they’ve served for the last 35 years.  After lunch, travel around the corner to the Albany Civil Rights Museum, located in the newly restored 1906 Old Mt. Zion Church.  The museum details the civil rights struggle ranging from voter registration to nonviolent protest, song, economic boycott and legal action.
